In Remembrance: Richard M. Koffler ’59 Died on April 17 2020

Richard M. Koffler passed away in New Jersey on April 17, 2020, after a long battle with leukemia. After Yale, Richard went on to get a master's in publishing from NYU and a PhD in comparative literature from Rutgers. He worked as a college professor, editor, and publisher for many years. Among other positions, he served as the executive director of the American Association of University Presses and as editor for the American imprint of Walter De Gruyter Publishers of Berlin.

Richard also published critical essays and translated works from the Italian. As an editor, he encouraged and refined the writing of authors in various social sciences and humanities areas. Many of these authors remember his hard work, wit, and generosity. Richard was also the coauthor of The Rarer Action and Uncertain Refuge: Italy and the Jews during the Holocaust.

At Yale Richard was a member of Calhoun College, as was his son Daniel, a member of the Yale College class of 2006.
