Wityk, a neurologist and former faculty at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, died from a brain tumor on March 26, 2020. Bob grew up in Maryland, attending Loyola High School. At Yale he enrolled in the BS/MS program in molecular biophysics and biochemistry and pursued his master's work in the lab of Dr. Nigel Grindley, now professor emeritus of and senior research scientist in molecular biophysics and biochemistry at Yale. Bob graduated summa cum laude in 1981 with dual degrees. He earned his medical degree at Case Western and completed residencies at UC–San Diego (medicine) and Mass General (neurology), as well as a fellowship at Tufts. He joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins in 1992 and eventually established a clinical stroke service there, training residents and fellows and conducting clinical trials in strokes and stroke management. Bob was the beloved husband of Anne S. Wityk (Yale ’83); devoted father of Rebecca McWhite and her husband Steven McWhite, Eric Wityk and his wife Elina El-Badry, and Catherine Wityk; dear son of Joseph J. Wityk and Suzanne T.
