He served as professor of medicine at Yale, and later taught at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland and then chaired the Department of Internal Medicine at the VA hospital at UCLA. Dr. Freedman was a treasured mentor to me as a medical student in the early 1970s. He was kind, thoughtful and supportive to students and house staff, and a terrific role model as a physician and scientist. I am pleased he had a long and productive life. My sympathies and belated condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
