In Remembrance: Albert J. Lemcke ’47E Died on March 10 2022

Albert “Al” John Lemcke, age 97, of Pennsville, New Jersey, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2022, in Hammonton, New Jersey. He died peacefully in his sleep from natural causes. 

Al was born December 9, 1924, to Paul and Dora (nee Oehm) Lemcke in West New York, New Jersey. He graduated in 1943 from Memorial High School in Guttenberg, New Jersey, and was inducted into the Navy. He attended the Naval Academy Prep School in Bainbridge, Maryland, and then Yale University under the GI Bill. He graduated in 1947 with a degree in chemical engineering.  Al joined the Dupont Company in February of 1948 and retired in 1986. After exhausting his interests in golf and wood carving, he took a part time position with I.C.I. (Uniquema) in 1988 where he worked a few more years.

Albert married Alice Mae Nurge in December 1948. “Al & Allie” were longtime residents of Pennsville, New Jersey.  Al was a charter member of the the Lutheran Church of St. Ambrose where he served in numerous positions. He was chair of the Salem County Bicentennial Celebration (1976), and a charter member of the Salem County Historical Society, serving on the board of directors and as president. He also served on the Pennsville Planning Board in the 1980s.

Al was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Alice Mae Lemcke. He is survived by his children, Paul/Linda (née Plasket) and Martha/Joseph Colache; grandsons Matthew and Christopher; and great-granddaughter Alice.  Funeral services were held Monday, March 21, 2022, at the Lutheran Church of St. Ambrose.
