I was sad today to read that Nilufer had passed away in December. Sweet memories, however, flooded into my mind of dinners with Nilufer and her friends at Pierson College at Yale. I so enjoyed those times together with Nilufer, Yesim, Ayse, Irene, and Kitty. They formed a wonderful group of friends, and I imagine they remained in touch over the years. Nilufer and the group welcomed me to the table, and I was comfortable and happy with them. Though I lost touch with Nilufer, I have a good and strong memory of her. I send my love and condolences to her son, her family, and all who love her.
I just saw today in Yale magazine that Nilufer passed away this past December.
This news makes me sad. We came from same high school in Istanbul, and she
came to Yale one year after me. Naturally, being from the same country draws people together, and besides, we were in one or two classes together. I haven't been
in touch with her since Yale, but I heard she was teaching in Utah. I don't know
why she retired early, and why she was back in Turkey. My condolences to her family.
