In Remembrance: William S. Cain Died on June 20 2023

William S. Cain, a longtime faculty member (1967–1994) with the John B. Pierce Laboratory at Yale, died on June 20, 2023. He was more recently an emeritus professor of surgery (otolaryngology) at University of California, San Diego. He studied how the human brain perceives smells and how odors and irritants affect health and perceived health risk. The CCCRC smell test he developed has been used to assess loss of smell with COVID.
