ObituariesIn Remembrance: George Benham Seligman ’54PhD Died on April 25 2024George Benham Seligman ’54PhD, emeritus professor of mathematics, died on April 25. He was 96. Seligman was an instructor at Princeton before returning in 1957 to Yale, where he taught and researched for over 50 years. He was the James E. English Professor of Mathematics until his retirement in 2009. Early in his Yale career, he played an instrumental role in revising the mathematics curriculum. He served as director of undergraduate studies in the math department from 1970 to 1972, chaired the department from 1974 to 1977, and was director of graduate studies for mathematics from 1991 to 1992. His research focused on the algebraic aspects of Lie theory. —Submitted by the family. |
