In Remembrance: Wladimir Carvalho de Maracaba ’09 Died on March 16 2024

Wladimir Carvalho de Maracaba, 37, passed away unexpectedly in March 2024 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. A native of Recife, Brazil, and a treasured member of Jonathan Edwards College, Wlad majored in economics at Yale, graduating magna cum laude. He was a skilled pianist with a wonderful singing voice, and he could often be found playing the piano in the JE common room.

After Yale, he worked for Cornerstone Research in New York City and received his MBA from Columbia University in 2013, after which he returned to Brazil to work for McKinsey & Company. For the past eight years, he worked in strategy at Google in Sao Paulo, rising as a respected leader in the company.

Wlad is remembered as admirably intense in everything he took on, from academics and his professional life to love and friendship. He will be dearly missed by his Yale family.
