In Remembrance: Paul R. North Jr. ’49 Died on January 17 2025

Paul R. North Jr. died on January 17, 2025, at the age of 97. He was born in New Haven and attended Hillhouse High School (when it was on the current site of Stiles and Morse Colleges). He earned his Yale BA in economics and then attended UConn Law School. Paul was a US Navy veteran, serving between his freshman and sophomore years at Yale during the end of World War II. He was called up again by the Navy during his law school years to serve on a minesweeper in the Mediterranean. For most of his law career, he was a partner at Clark, Hall & Peck in New Haven, and later at Dennis & North. 

Paul was predeceased by his wife Rita and is survived by four children and their spouses (including Gwen North Reiss ’79 and son-in-law Paul W. Reiss ’79, ’82MArch), four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. In 2018, at age 90, he proudly attended his granddaughter Caroline Reiss Summers’s PhD thesis presentation (in molecular biophysics and biochemistry) on Yale’s West Campus, as well as his grandson-in-law Brady Summers’s PhD presentation in the same program.
