ObituariesIn Remembrance: David Vine ’48 Died on March 3 2025![]() View full imageDavid Vine, age 97, passed away peacefully in Vero Beach, Florida, on March 3, 2025. He was born March 5, 1927, in Trenton, New Jersey, and educated in Trenton public schools. While in high school during World War II, he served as special messenger to the chief air raid warden. He graduated high school in 1944 and went on to Yale, where he received a BA degree in sociology and psychology, graduating in February 1949. His education was interrupted by service in the US Navy, having enlisted at age 17 in February 1945. David married Opal Irene Pepper in December 1949; she preceded him in death in July 2009. He is survived by a son, David Louis Vine of Howell, New Jersey; a daughter, Andrea Vine Schultz of Fleetwood, Pennsylvania; and three grandchildren. His work experience included employment in specialty and discount store chains in the area of human resources and labor relations. His last 23 years were with the Kmart Corporation, serving in his final capacity as senior vice president, executive resources, where his responsibilities included organizational planning and development, executive succession and continuity, executive development, executive recruitment, and officer compensation, including the presidents of seven subsidiary companies. He retired in April 1992. David’s many organizational affiliations included responsibilities as secretary of Women’s Apparel Chains Association Inc.; employer trustee, ILGWU National Retirement Fund; and member of the appeals committee. He was also a member of the Hudson County, New Jersey, Policy Board Private Industry Council; Board of Directors, Urban League; the United Way; the Advisory Board National Alliance of Business (New York, New Jersey, and Puerto Rico); Labor/ Management Advisory Committee on Alcoholism; Industrial Relations Research Administration; and the Marketing and Distributive Education Advisory Council for Occupational Education, Board of Education, City of New York. He had been a resident of Vero Beach, Florida, since August 2000. —Submitted by the family. |
