In Remembrance: Edward R. “Ned” Sewall ’50E Died on October 25 2025

Edward R. “Ned” Sewall, 97, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, in Katy, Texas. He was born on December 20, 1927, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

After graduating from Minnehaha Academy, Ned went on to study mechanical engineering at Yale University. Ned spent his career with Sewall Gear Manufacturing, the company founded by his father. As a leader in the field, he served as president of the American Gear Manufacturers Association and chaired its Technical Committee for many years.

In 1951, Ned married Barbara Overton in Patchogue, New York. Together, they raised three children and built a life centered around family, work, and shared experiences. Ned is survived by his children, Stephen, Katie (Jim) Miller, and David (Martha); six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and his grandson, Samuel Sewall. After retiring, Ned enjoyed playing golf and traveling the world with Barbara. A private family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Samuel Billington Sewall Endowment for Child Life at the Children’s Minnesota Oncology Center, or to a charity of your choice.
