Michael Allen Died on September 4 2013Reporter turned Episcopal minister Jay Cooke Michael Allen passed away on September 4, 2013, less than a month after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. An interview with controversial Episcopal priest James Albert Pike for Look magazine is what spurred Allen to pursue a life of activism through religion. As head priest at Christ Church Episcopal Cathedral in St. Louis, Allen opened a homeless shelter and then day care for homeless children in the cathedral. Throughout his career Allen had been champion of women's reproductive rights, civil rights, and HIV/AIDS health awareness, having associated with such activists as Rev.
