Malawista, a researcher who as chief of rheumatology at Yale School of Medicine was among the first scientists to define Lyme disease, died September 18, 2013, in Hamden, Connecticut. He was 79. He had joined the Yale faculty in 1966 and was chief of rheumatology for 21 years. A full obituary appeared in the New York Times on September 19, 2013.
