In Remembrance: Salem Kaleel Shaheen ’42 Died on October 12 2013

Salem Kaleel (Sam) Shaheen, 93, passed away October 12, 2013, in Canton, Ohio. He won a scholarship to attend Yale University, and joined the Navy upon graduation, serving as a lieutenant in the Pacific fleet. After World War II, he received a second degree from MIT, in architecture. He designed many notable buildings in Ohio and Illinois, including the Shaheen Oriental Rug store, the Akron General Hospital, and the St. George Syrian Orthodox Church Social Hall. He authored the book Practical Project Management on construction management, and taught the subject at Kent State University. At the time of his death, he was working on a second book on architecture and philosophy.
