Speak to Me series continues
Inaugurated during the summer of 2020 in an effort to address the now, the Yale School of Art’s Speak to Me series continued into the fall semester with two public virtual events closing out the 2020 calendar year. Featuring JJJJJerome Ellis, Mickalene Thomas ’02MFA, and Jasmine Wahi, these conversations were conducted virtually, free and open to the public, and organized by Stavros Niarchos Foundation Dean and Professor of Art Marta Kuzma. JJJJJerome Ellis delivered a performative address November 30 entitled “On Fugitive Speech,” which centered around the poetics and politics of Black dysfluency; and 2020 Presidential Visiting Fellow in Fine Arts Mickalene Thomas joined with curator and activist Jasmine Wahi December 3 for a wide-ranging conversation on collectivity, collaboration, and their potential for expanding equity in the arts.
New digital resources encourage interconnectedness
The biweekly email newsletter, Yale School of Art in the World, has been published since 2017 as a means of archiving and sharing all public exhibitions and publications featuring or initiated by Yale School of Art graduates, current MFA students, and current faculty and staff. Now the publication has transitioned to a location-filtered calendar and growing archive, accessible at yaleart.org/intheworld. Additionally, clips and segments from School of Art lectures and events are available on YouTube for the first time, and a new public events calendar and news archive—both accessible via the main navigation menu on the School of Art website—have been created to better engage and inform the School of Art’s communities around the world.
