New office will promote educational equity and access
Yale College and the Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning announced in July that they had established a new Office of Educational Opportunity, which will promote educational equity and ensure that all undergraduates have widespread and ready access to Yale’s educational, advising, and cocurricular opportunities. The office was officially launched on July 1.
To support the office’s work, its advisory committee will bring together representatives of existing programs designed to support students who identify as first-generation or low-income. Given the tremendous growth in the first-generation and low-income communities, and in the number of students seeking guidance for their educational experience, Yale College has been assessing programs that support them.
The idea of creating the Office of Educational Opportunity grew out of a strong collaboration between Yale College and the Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning, and the office will ensure that all Yale College students have access to world-class opportunities and support.
