Four awarded Soros Fellowships

Three current Yale students and one recent Yale College alumnus have been selected as 2026 Paul and Daisy Soros Fellows for New Americans, a highly competitive fellowship supporting graduate study for immigrants and children of immigrants. The recipients are Jorge Andres “Andy” Flores, a Yale Law School student; Gloria Oladipo, a student at the David Geffen School of Drama; Akhil Rajan ’21, ’21MA, now pursuing a JD/PhD at Yale; and Bayan Galal ’23, a medical student at the University of Pennsylvania. The fellows were selected from more than 3,000 applicants nationwide and will receive funding for graduate study as well as membership in a distinguished alumni network.

Seven earn fellowships for UK study

Seven recent Yale graduates, including six members of the Class of 2026, have received prestigious fellowships for graduate study in the United Kingdom. The recipients are Addie Lowenstein ’26, Seung Min Baik Kang ’26, Christian Baca ’26, Munira Elbashir ’26, Nithya Guthikonda ’26, David Rosenbloom ’26, and Ava Saylor ’24. Their awards include fellowships and scholarships supporting advanced study at Oxford, Cambridge, and other British institutions, in fields ranging from East Asian studies and digital humanities to international policy, migration, and public affairs.

Schwarzman Center hosts event on the impact of school shootings

On May 7, Yale Schwarzman Center hosted a screening of the Academy Award–winning documentary short film All the Empty Rooms, an intimate look at the impact of school shootings in America. A seven-year-long project of CBS News correspondent Steve Hartman and photographer Lou Bop, the film focuses a lens on one of America’s most urgent crises. After the screening, executive producer Lisa Cortés ’82 moderated a panel with Yale School of Public Health dean Megan Ranney, community scholar Nelba Márquez-Greene, film director Joshua Seftel, and Hartman. Among the co–executive producers are Roy and Mary Judelson and Phil and Cheryl Milstein, parents of Yale alumni.
