Political science professor joins faculty
Kate Baldwin, associate professor of political science at Yale, has joined the ranks of the Jackson School’s senior faculty. All of Jackson’s professors of global affairs hold joint appointments with the Jackson School and another department or professional school at Yale.
Baldwin is the author of the book The Paradox of Traditional Chiefs in Democratic Africa (New York: Cambridge University Press, 2016). Her current research projects analyze politics in weak states, examining how non-state actors—such as traditional leaders, churches, and NGOs—interact with the national state to affect development and democracy.
Faculty publication
David Morse, a lecturer and director of the writing program at the Jackson School of Global Affairs, recently published a new collection of short stories, The Book of Disbelieving. The nine short stories of fable and lore open portals to fabulist worlds and magical objects. The worlds Morse creates are fantastical, but the challenges his characters face are grounded in reality, calling into question issues of love, memory, and the subjectivity of experience.
