YDS dean to step down after 15 years
At the end of the 2026–27 academic year, Gregory E. Sterling, the Lillian Claus Professor of New Testament, will conclude his service as the Reverend Henry L. Slack Dean of Yale Divinity School (YDS). Since 2012, Dean Sterling expanded YDS’s academic programs, increased access to theological education, advanced initiatives focused on sustainability, justice, and community, renewed much of the school’s physical campus, and raised funds in record-breaking amounts. Under his leadership, YDS has successfully secured full tuition support for every student with demonstrated financial need and built the largest regenerative student residential complex—Bauer Hall at the Living Village—on a college campus. Dean Sterling plans to continue serving the Yale community as a member of the YDS faculty.
Divinity School journal honored by religious press association
Yale Divinity School’s Reflections journal has earned the Award of Excellence for best seminary journal in the annual Associated Church Press awards contest. This is the highest honor given to a seminary journal or publication by the Associated Church Press (ACP)—the oldest interdenominational religious press association in North America. The contest, governed by the ACP’s board, admitted more than 700 entries for nearly 90 categories. Reflections won the best-in-class award based on its two issues last year: “Is Christianity Losing Its Religion?” (Spring 2025) and “A Faith that Sustains: Building Hope for a Living Planet” (Fall 2025).
