YSM research areas ranked among best

US News & World Report has ranked Yale University as one of the best global universities and a global leader in several subject areas housed at Yale School of Medicine. The university took the 8th spot in the 2026–27 “Best Global Universities” list. Among Yale’s top-ranking subject areas were immunology (#4), psychiatry and psychology (#4), clinical medicine (#7), endocrinology and metabolism (#7), oncology (#8), molecular biology and genetics (#10), biology and biochemistry (#11), neuroscience and behavior (#11), cell biology (#13), infectious diseases (#21), cardiac and cardiovascular systems (#22), microbiology (#26), gastroenterology and hepatology (#29), radiology, nuclear medicine, and medical imaging (#35), pharmacology and toxicology (#54), and surgery (#62).

US News ranked 2,250 schools around the world, and YSM’s subject areas were all within the top 3 percent. The publication considers several factors when calculating its rankings, including research reputation, publications, citations, number of highly cited papers, and international collaborations.

Advancing research on autoimmunity

A $2.5 million gift from the Colton Foundation will advance the work of the Colton Center for Autoimmunity at Yale and the Colton Consortium for Autoimmunity. The consortium is a global partnership among the four Colton Centers at Yale, the University of Pennsylvania, New York University, and Tel Aviv University. Founded in 2020, the mission of the Colton Center for Autoimmunity at Yale is to identify and nurture research leading to cures—supporting early-stage, high-potential ideas and studies needed to move discoveries toward new diagnostics and treatments.

This gift will be allocated across three key areas: a Director’s Fund focused on innovation; recruitment of additional faculty focused on autoimmune disease, especially research grounded in human autoimmunity and human translational immunology; and a third area explicitly designed to deepen multi-institution work through a consortium initiative.
