Gina Raimondo ’98JD wins an election—to Yale Corporation

Gina Raimondo ’98JD is in a tight race for Rhode Island’s Democratic gubernatorial nomination. But this week, she scored an election victory of a different kind.

“In worldwide balloting,” Yale graduates chose Raimondo—a Law School alum who shifted from venture capital to politics four years ago—over Unilever executive Gina Boswell ’89MPPM as the Yale Corporation’s newest alumni fellow.

Raimondo, who is currently general treasurer in her home state of Rhode Island, will begin her term on the university’s governing body on July 1.

“Gina is a proven leader of a complex, public sector organization and has an outstanding record of accomplishments,” President Peter Salovey ’86PhD says in a Yale announcement. “The perspective she will bring to the Corporation’s deliberations will be invaluable, particularly as we pursue our efforts to strengthen our alliance with New Haven and the surrounding community.”
