New publishing arrangement for Yale Alumni Magazine

Some in-house news: Yale University and Yale Alumni Publications, Inc.—the independent nonprofit that has published the Yale Alumni Magazine since 1937—have reached an agreement under which the university will become the publisher of the magazine. For more details, read this joint statement.

This is what I posted this morning on the Yale '89 Facebook page. I don't know why the editor hasn't resigned -- EW

"I know this space is mostly for Yale cheerleading. But the latest announcements from the university are, to me, disquieting. First, a wasteful $150 million contribution to rename Commons and make it a student center, and second, something I just read today, where the Yale Alumni Magazine will become a "department" of Yale overseen by none other than eternal president-whisperer Linda Lorimer. And everyone quoted in the press release - the editor (who's staying on), and AYA - being excited about this. It's an honor to have an independent alumni magazine; most universities don't, and so they are administration mouthpieces. Is that what we're headed for with YAM?"

I agree that that it is a great loss to no longer have an independent alumni magazine.
