Elizabeth Meriwether ’04: A “New Girl” snags a fistful of Emmy nominations.

In middle school, to her dismay, she was cast as Captain Hook and Gollum. Now Elizabeth Meriwether ’04, creator of the Fox show New Girl, looks more like Gandalf the wizard—conjuring five Emmy nominations for the debut season of the sitcom starring Zooey Deschanel. And even if New Girl comes up empty at Sunday’s awards ceremony, Meriwether‘s show will, like Tinkerbell, return strong and sparkly on September 25, when the second season begins. But it’s not all magic in that bag of writer’s tricks: Meriwether, who double-majored in English and theater studies, reveals that she still has to pull all-nighters to get her work done.
