At the head of Hillhouse Avenue was once a mansion called Sachem’s Wood, not far from where Kline Biology Tower stands now. (See second photo.) The house is gone—by the terms of the bequest of the Hillhouse family when the land was given to Yale in 1942—but the wood remains.
