Throwback Thursday: one for the agesIt is likely that there are players on this year’s football team who were not yet walking—much less tackling—when Yale last beat Harvard at the Bowl. That was in 1999, and it was, not incidentally, one of the greatest Games of all time. After Harvard shut down Yale's running game in the first half, quarterback Joe Walland ’00, who had spent the night before the game in the infirmary with tonsillitis and a 102-degree fever, threw 51 consecutive passes in the second half, connecting with his roommate Eric Johnson ’01, a future NFL tight end, for a hair-raising touchdown catch (shown here) in the final seconds for a 24–21 win. If Yale wins this Saturday, the Bulldogs will take home their first solo Ivy championship since 1980.
