Happy 335th birthday to George Berkeley, the Anglo-Irish philosopher, bishop, and early benefactor of Yale. (Berkeley College, the Berkeley Divinity School, and Berkeley, California, are named for him.) This relief of a bishop’s mitre and crozier, inside the main gate of Berkeley College, is a tribute to him.
