Our October 1964 issue reported a political shift among Yale students: a "significant majority" of the incoming Class of 1968 considered themselves Democrats. The article further reported that 69 percent of undergrads favored Lyndon B. Johnson in the upcoming election, compared to only 20 percent for Barry Goldwater and 11 percent undecided. Four years earlier, the student body had chosen Richard Nixon over John F. Kennedy 48 percent to 44 percent. As for 2024? The Yale Daily News published a survey yesterday indicating that 82 percent of students plan to vote for Kamala Harris and 8 percent for Donald Trump.
