Throwback Thursday: a Tad dramatic

110 years ago, in our February 11, 1916, issue, we introduced readers to Yale's new head football coach, Thomas Albert Dwight ("Tad") Jones ’08S. He would go on to compile a 57–15–4 record over ten seasons, but he is best known today for the opening of his speech to the team before The Game in 1923. “Gentlemen,” he said, “you are now going out to play football against Harvard. Never again in your whole life will you do anything so important.” The Bulldogs won 13–0.
