The Reverend Jesse Jackson, who died Tuesday at 84, visited Yale and New Haven several times over his decades as an activist and political candidate. In 2003, the Yale Daily News reported on his appearance during a five-day strike by Yale's unions, where he was arrested along with 18 other demonstrators. Jackson was on campus in 1974 as a Chubb Fellow, and in 1996 he headlined a union rally on the New Haven Green that coincided with Yale's commencement.
