Cedar Street between Congress and York is the School of Medicine's front door and, at lunchtime, a mecca for international cuisine from well over a dozen food trucks. And one day, it may be car-free. Last week, when Yale and the City of New Haven announced a deal under which the university will increase its voluntary payments to the city by $5 million per year, they also said they were considering "converting some streets to walking or community spaces." This block of Cedar, they said, was one of the "likely candidates." A plan to convert High Street between Chapel and Elm was put on hold last spring because of Yale's budget uncertainties.
