The comment period has expired.<> I believe this is the seal of the original General Hospital Society of Connecticut, formed in 1826 to raise funds to build the first hospital in New Haven. Ithiel Town designed the Greek Revival building, erected in 1833. Eventually named the New Haven Hospital, this structure was the ancestor of today's Yale-New Haven Hospital. It was torn down in 1929 to build the new New Haven Hospital of 1930 designed by Henry C. Pelton. This building still stands, though nearly concealed by later additions. It now bears the prosaic name Clinic Building. CB. Howard Ave. 789. <> By rights, this seal should be in this same building. My second guess would be in Sterling Hall of Medicine.
<>>> After all of the above, I just found a photo that clearly shows this seal above the entrance to Boardman Administration Building of 1918 by Henry Pelton at Cedar St. 330, across the street from Sterling Hall of Medicine. <> Now called the Boardman Building, it was renovated in 1987 by Russo-Sonder and at that time given over to the Ophthalmology Dept. of Yale's School of Medicine.
