Mystery Monday: wildlife

We don't want to alarm anyone, but there's a wild beast in the courtyard of Pauli Murrray College. And he seems to be a literary allusion. Can anyone tell what this stone carving is referencing?

Pauli Murray College wasn't much more than a vague idea when I was roaming campus as YAM's managing editor more than 15 years ago, but I'd know William Blake's "Tyger" anywhere, as the poet himself had it:
    Tyger Tyger burning bright,
In the forests of the night:
    What immortal hand or eye,
    Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

    Very cool rendering.
