A big splash at commencement

Under clear skies, Yale celebrated its 325th commencement today, conferring more than 4,000 degrees. Among them were eight honorary degrees, three of them to Yale alums: playwright Lynn Nottage ’89MFA, political scientist Robert Putnam ’70PhD, and politician/educator Kurt Schmoke ’71. But the biggest cheers came for Olympic swimming champion Katie Ledecky (above), whom President Maurie McInnis ’96PhD lauded as "a role model whose grace outside the water is as great as her power and grace within it."
