Throwback Thursday: men in uniform
Throwback Thursday: alumni will start rolling into town today for the first of two Yale class reunion weekends, and some of them will get perhaps a commemorative baseball cap or polo shirt. But in the 1930s and ’40s, classes devised elaborate costumes for their reunions and showed them off at a reunion parade. Yalies dressed up as bakers, farmers, French sailors, convicts, bellhops, and locomotive engineers (and, unfortunately, more than once as “Chinese coolies”). You’ll probably see more than one blue blazer this weekend, but that’s more of an unofficial costume. ______________________________________________ The Yale Alumni Magazine is published by Yale Alumni Publications Inc., an alumni-based nonprofit that is not run by Yale University.
